People are familiar with most paint media—acrylic, oil, watercolor. Encaustic is the oldest paint medium on record. It’s beeswax to which pigments can be added, or resin to harden the surface. It’s a gloriously luminous surface you have to touch to appreciate…the proverbial baby’s-butt-soft. Light bounces down and back through the wax, creating a deep and luscious effect.
